What Are Topics and Folders?
Items are organized in a hierarchical fashion using four conceptual objects: Files, Topics, Folders and Items. The organization of the first three can be viewed in the Folder Pane. Once a folder is selected, the contained list of Items can be viewed in the List Pane. The four NoteMagician object types are summarized in the table below:
OBJECT TYPE |
DEFINITION |
---|---|
Deleted Items |
This special folder always exists directly under the My Items root level. It will contain items that have been “deleted” from other folders. It is similar to the Windows Recycle Bin in that items can be restored from the Deleted Items folder back into the folder from which they came (or another folder if desired.) You can even drag/drop items in this folder into any folder of your choice. |
Folder |
Folders are the lowest level of NoteMagician organization. This is the ONLY level that can contain individual items. Folders can reside directly under the My Items level or under any Topic. Topics can contain an unlimited number of folders. When a Folder is selected in the Folder Pane, and NoteMagician is in List View (View > List View), the List Pane is populated with all the items in that folder. A typical List Pane appears below. |
My Items |
The default name of the one local NoteMagician File. It represents the highest organizational level; the “file cabinet”. It can contain only Topics or Folders. |
Sub-Topic |
Topic levels 2 through 10 are sub-topics. Each sub-topic is contained within a Topic whose level is one less than the sub-topic. For example, sub-topics at level 4 must be contained in sub-topics of level 3. |
Topic |
Topics can contain only contain Folders or Sub-Topics. Think of a Topic as a “Pendaflex” folder in which you store various “Manilla” folders with your actual data items. |
