Then main NoteMagician Menu Bar has 5 fixed items on it. Depending on the plugin corresponding to the currently selected item, there may be additional menu items. Each plugin has the capability to add main menu items as well as some sub-items under the existing main menu items.
Overview of the Main Menu Bar

The Main Menu Bar appears directly below the title bar and above the NoteMagician Toolbar in the main program window. Clicking on any of the options or holding down the <Alt> key while pressing an underlined letter, will display a pop-up menu with additional program options. As stated above, each plugin can add new menu items or sub-items when an item of the type handled by that plugin is displayed in the Item Pane. The Format menu item above, for example, will only appear when the Note Plugin is displaying a item. The standard main menu items that will appear no matter what plugin is in use are outlined in the table below:

The File menu is really a collection of things you can do that don’t really fit nicely into one of the other categories. Here you will find the menu choices for creating new items, checking your NoteMagician databases, importing and exporting items, printing, backup/restore and closing the application. |

The basic Edit menu contains choices to select all items in a list, delete/rename items, topics and folders, search items for specified strings, and change the reminder associated with an item. Most plugins will add other options, such as cut and paste. |

Options in the View menu determine what portions of the user interface will be visible at any given time. Most panes can be turned off or on as the user wishes. In addition, the Preferences option is placed in this menu. |

The Actions menu makes it possible to traverse all the topics, folders and items in your NoteMagician database without using the toolbar, in case the toolbar is not visible. Although you would usually either use the toolbar or simply go to the Folder Pane or Item Pane to choose the item(s) you wish to see, having these options on a menu allow external programs (such as batch control programs) to cause these actions to occur. |

The primary purpose of the Items menu is to allow you to create a new item. The New option is where you would choose to instruct a plugin to create a new item of the type supported by that plugin. For the Form plugin, you can also create a new form to be used to create items based on a standard or custom-designed template. In addition, item templates will be listed as separate options on this menu. The NoteMagician Toolbar has a button that also allows you to create a new item. |
