Introducing the Item Pane
NoteMagician’s Item Pane is where the data for your items will appear. There is no set format or usage for this area as the information is controlled by the plugin that created the item you are viewing. You can view any item’s contents by selecting that item from the List Pane. At that point, NoteMagician hands control to the plugin for that item, which will display the appropriate contents, adding menu bar options as necessary, and reveal its custom toolbar, if any.
Item View
Item View is simply the user interface view you will see when the List Pane is hidden. The Item Pane will then be expanded to include the area previously occupied by the List Pane. Item View can be entered by one of the following techniques:
- Press the
button visible to the left of the Favorites Tab Bar, provided the Tab Bar is visible; - Choose View > Item View from the View Menu.
You can also let the List View and Item View share the lower right section of the user interface so you can see at least some part of the list of items available.
Item Pane Context (Right-Click) Menu
The Item Pane’s context menu is controlled by the associated Plugin. The most commonly used Plugin is the Note Plugin which contains free form data which you have associated with the Item Title. It’s context menu offers a wide selection of what data you might insert into a note. The table below itemizes some of the options you will see in the right-click context menu. Details for the various options are outlined in the Note Plugin help document.

This option brings up the Text Character Format dialog allowing you to choose the font, size, style and colors of text to be applied either to the selected text OR the upcoming text to be typed. |
Paragraph… |
Brings up the Paragraph Setting dialog allowing you to select the alignment, spacing, and indentation. |
Tabs… |
This option brings up the Set Paragraph Tabs dialog allowing you to choose the tab spacing, alignment, and fill character to use. Note items can have a custom set of tab stops. |
Bullets |
The bullets menu offers a myriad of choices for creating lists, choosing the list level, whether numbers or symbols will be used, and any additional separators after the list symbol. |
Insert |
The Insert menu lets you insert a wide variety of things into your note items including: the date, time, or day of week, images, contents of external files, audio clips (that you may record yourself within NoteMagician), links to web URLs, links to other items, or any symbol which may be part of a selectable font. This is a very powerful feature making it possible to have your note items be extremely robust. |
