Posts in this elite blog will all be related to software development, with the occasional plug for my current flagship product, “NoteMagician“. My name is Lee Rautenberg, and I am best known for my pcAnywhere remote control software product which I sold to Symantec Corporation in 1991, which was then acquired by Broadcom around 2019.
I will always do my best to be completely honest, objective and provide information of general interest to software developers. Having been in this industry for over half a century (yeah, I’m not young 😀), and trained at M.I.T., I have a wealth of information I’d love to share with up-and-coming engineers. I can be somewhat wordy, so if you see topics of interest, please have enough patience to read to the end. Some of the topics and sample code snippets may seem very basic (because they are!), but hopefully they will lay down a good background before I go deeper into the topic.
While I am certainly opinionated about many topics within the software arena, my goal is still to convey the best, most honest view on every topic I write about, based upon my decades of experience. It’s true that I may not be 100% up-to-date on all the latest technologies, what I can guarantee is that I do my best to keep up with most of the latest trends. In particular, I am still an active software developer.
I welcome discussion on any topic and will do my best to respond as quickly as possible. If you have any software topic you’d like me to discuss, please send me a note (using my contact form is the best way to reach me). If I feel that a topic may be of general interest, I’ll attempt to add a post to my blog.
Feel free to suggest software topics that may be of interest to you. My particular areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, operating systems, communications, languages, complex software projects, etc. In addition, feel free to use links to any of my blog posts should you want to pass on information that you may agree with. All I ask is that you do not simply copy my posts and re-post them as your own!
As my favorite language for complex applications is C#, many of my posts that exhibit snippet posts on how to accomplish various tasks will demonstrate how to accomplish the task in C#. Most modern Object Oriented Languages (OO) should have similar constructs. I will make an attempt to have every code sample be a complete program that could be pasted into Visual Studio (I use version 2022) and the program will run. See my article on Timers.
If you decide to use our contact form to comment on what I write, please try to refrain from going off topic and/or being argumentative. For as I said, what I write should be considered my point of view. I really prefer not to get into a “heated” discussion when other’s opinions are far apart from mine. Also, I am particularly not interested in any discussion about anything political. Thanks!
